ionysis is looking for an Electrolysis Testing Engineer (f/m/d)

ionysis develops next-generation membrane electrode assemblies for electrochemical converters. As a recently founded and well-funded start-up based in beautiful and vibrant Freiburg, we are looking for an electrolysis testing engineer (f/m/d).

You work within the tech team in the lab, build, operate and improve electrolysis test benches. Your friends appreciate that you are not only nerdy, but also stand out through your great hands-on mentality and a very thorough and well-structured work style.

What we do

To stop climate change and reach Net Zero, ionysis seeks to decarbonize mobility and industry with innovative electrochemical devices. We focus on the core of any electrochemical converter: the membrane electrode assembly (MEA). We develop and manufacture MEAs based on the most performant fluorine-free materials for fuel cells and electrolyzers. As a spin-off from Hahn-Schickard and University of Freiburg, we combine scientific excellence with entrepreneurial spirit to bring our innovations to market and scale.

Your responsibilities

  • Buildup of electrolyzer test benches (single cell, 5cm²)

  • Continuous development and improvement of the modular electrolyzer test benches

  • Fabrication of electrolyzer catalyst coated membrane (CCM) prototypes

  • Characterization of electrolyzer cells in the test benches

  • Collection, evaluation and interpretation of measurement data

  • Report and present your results in regular technical meetings

Your qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for fighting climate change and contributing to Net Zero

  • Strong team player and getting-things-done mentality

  • A technical education with profound engineering experience (B.Sc./M.Sc. in engineering)

  • Professional experience in a related field is a plus

  • Very accurate work style with a strong sense for data quality

  • Ability, patience and endurance to perform similar experiments repetitively with the same high quality

  • Fluency in German and English

What we offer

  • Opportunity to join an early-stage well-financed start-up and shape the culture and processes

  • Opportunity to grow with the company in various roles depending on personal preferences and abilities

  • A young and diverse team with flat hierarchies, valuing collaboration with each other no matter what your role at ionysis is

  • A competitive salary package and 30 vacation days per year

  • Subsidized corporate fitness program (Hansefit) and lunch allowances

  • Virtual stock options for all new hires and for exceptional performance

  • Modern and well-equipped office and laboratories on the university campus in Freiburg
